Jeju Island, A Famous Holiday Destination Among South Koreans

Jeju Island
Jeju Island is located off the shores of South Korea. It is a famous holiday destination among South Koreans and has lately become popular among travelers from all over the world. It is not only a land of rugged beauty but also a place rich in myths and folklore.

As you probably know, our world has so many naturally stunning places. However, the beauty of these places can often be diminished by crowds of tourists. Just off the coast of South Korea is a place that's referred to as "The Island of the Gods" and the "Hawaii of Korea." This island is Jeju, a naturally gorgeous island that Koreans and citizens of other Asian countries love to travel to. It's a pretty well-kept secret and makes for a truly amazing vacation destination. A Jeju vacation - or any vacation outside the US for that matter - means you will have to acquire a passport. Filling out a American passport online application is the first step towards getting yours.

Many haven't heard of the availability of passport services online. They are a great alternative because it means you can apply for passports from your home and any time during the day. Passport expediting sites make the process easy because any type of passport service is there right on your computer: you can renew USA passport online, get a replacement for a damaged one, or get one for your children. These sites have a specialty in expedited shipping of passports, which means they arrive by a time that you set up.

The whole spectrum of nature activities are popular in Jeju, and there's no shortage of places to do them. Many people recommend the hiking trails. Mt. Halla is Jeju's most recognizable landmark, as it is the highest mountain in both South Korea and Jeju. It also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountain has a variety of hiking you trails you are able to take to the top. As you might imagine, the beaches are stunning. Iho Beach is one of the best with its dual-colored sand. Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is also a very well-known landmark, as it is the most famous waterfall in Jeju.

Manjanggul is one of the most interesting attractions, and is definitely something you should consider checking out. Manjanggul is the longest lava tube in the world, and it has actually been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cave that this lava tube is located in also houses a rare bat species. The cave also features some other very interesting geological formations from the lava: "the lava turtle", "lava pillar", and "Wing-shaped Wall."

Yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site is Seongsan Ilchubong, a tall volcano which you can walk to the top of. It is an icon of Jeju, and the views from the top are absolutely gorgeous, particularly while the sun is rising. Jeju is also famous for the very unique (and sometimes very strange) museums, such as the teddy bear museum and the green tea museum. There is also Loveland, a park with plenty of sex-themed sculptures. And of course there is the attached sex shop.

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is another famous destination on Jeju Island that is inspired by local folklore. It is said the heavenly beings visit the pristine waters of Cheonjiyeon to enjoy its beauty and bask in its cool cascades. See for yourself the splendor of this waterfall and find a haven in its sparkling blue pool surrounded by rich green foliage.

A great way to discover the island's watery underworld, taking a submarine tour is popular with visitors to Jeju. Taking place near the enchanting Munsom Islet, the submarine tour takes visitors down to 30 metres, where they will discover a whole host of delights, from colourful marine creatures to soft corals. Lasting for around half an hour, Jeju's submarine tour is an unforgettable experience that can be enjoyed by the whole family. A seated Buddha can be found inside. According to local belief, when water drips from the ceiling of the cave it means that the Sanbangdok, the patroness of Sanbangsan, is crying. Follow the footsteps of the pilgrims up to this natural grotto and find yourself beautifully situated to witness a stunning panorama of Jeju Island.

People of all ages gather to see the Pacific Land show, which features tricks from a large collection of animals such as dolphins, sea lions and penguins. The show takes place at the Jungmun Tourist Complex, and visitors also have the change to gaze at aquatic life in the aquarium while they are here.
